Batam's original boutique retreat since 2009 — 14 uniquely themed jungle rooms and villas, expert spa, saltwater pool, and a hilltop restaurant, just 10 minutes from Sekupang Ferry Terminal.
Tempat Senang has been welcoming guests since 2009, and it remains unlike any other property on Batam. Tucked into a hillside above Sekupang, the resort comprises just 14 rooms and villas, each decorated with a distinct theme — from Balinese motifs to colonial rattan and hand-carved teak. The sense of seclusion is immediate: jungle birdsong replaces traffic noise the moment you step through the entrance gate.
The saltwater infinity pool is the social heart of the property, surrounded by mature palms and flowering shrubs. It is heated to a comfortable temperature year-round. Beyond the pool, stone paths wind through the landscaped grounds to private villa decks, a yoga pavilion and a small meditation garden. Guests consistently note that the resort feels far larger than its 14-unit footprint suggests.
Getting here from Singapore is straightforward. Sekupang Ferry Terminal is a 10-minute drive, and the resort operates its own transfer service on request. The crossing from HarbourFront takes around 40 minutes on most scheduled services, making Tempat Senang a realistic option for long-weekend escapes — arrive Friday evening, leave Sunday afternoon.
The on-site spa is what most guests plan their stay around. Treatments draw on Javanese and Balinese traditions: hour-long massages use locally sourced coconut and lemongrass oils, while the signature Batam Stone Ritual incorporates heated volcanic stones and a full-body herbal compress. The spa occupies its own garden pavilion, separate from the main building, which means treatments are genuinely quiet.
The wellness programme extends beyond the treatment rooms. A resident yoga instructor leads morning and evening sessions on the open-air pavilion above the pool. Eco-tours into the surrounding secondary forest are available by arrangement — these typically run two to three hours and cover local flora, birdwatching and a visit to a nearby traditional kampung (village).
Dietary preferences are taken seriously here. The kitchen can accommodate vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free guests with advance notice, and the spa menu includes juice cleanse packages that pair with accommodation. For guests combining spa treatments with the pool and yoga, full-day wellness packages represent the best value.
The hilltop restaurant at Tempat Senang is open to outside guests but has a distinctly intimate feel — most evenings, tables are filled with in-house guests rather than walk-ins. The menu blends Indonesian and international dishes, with clear sourcing notes on the fresh fish (from local Batam waters) and vegetables (from the resort's own garden beds). A set dinner with four courses and a welcome cocktail is available for couples and makes for an unhurried evening.
Breakfast is included in most room rates and is served on the open terrace overlooking the tree canopy. The spread includes local favourites such as nasi goreng, lontong and freshly made sambal alongside Western options. Coffee is brewed from Sumatra Mandheling beans, ground to order.
The bar is stocked with Indonesian craft beers, a short selection of international wines and a menu of non-alcoholic herbal infusions. Guests with dietary restrictions should mention these at check-in — the kitchen is small but accommodating. The restaurant closes at 10 pm; guests arriving on later ferries should inform the resort in advance to arrange a cold platter or room service.
Sekupang Ferry Terminal is served by direct departures from HarbourFront Ferry Terminal in Singapore. The crossing takes approximately 40 minutes. Tempat Senang offers a paid airport and ferry transfer service — book at least 24 hours in advance via the resort's direct website or Agoda messaging. Taxis from the terminal are readily available and typically cost IDR 60,000–80,000 (approximately SGD 5–7).
Rates are quoted in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) on the resort's own website but most booking platforms allow payment in SGD or USD. The resort operates on a predominantly cash or direct bank transfer basis for on-property extras; international credit cards are accepted but a small surcharge applies. ATMs are available in central Sekupang, a 15-minute drive.
With only 14 rooms, Tempat Senang books out well in advance during Singapore public holiday weekends (Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, National Day). Weekend reservations should be made 3–4 weeks ahead. Mid-week rates are noticeably lower and the property is often quieter, making it a worthwhile consideration for travellers with flexible schedules.
