IHG 4-star family resort on 8 acres at Waterfront City — 275 rooms, Kids Club, pools, tennis, and spa. 15 min from Sekupang Ferry.
Holiday Inn Resort Batam by IHG occupies eight acres of landscaped grounds at Waterfront City, making it one of the largest self-contained resort complexes on the island. With 275 rooms across several building wings, the property manages to balance international IHG standards with the kind of generous outdoor space that families travelling from compact Singapore apartments appreciate immediately.
The Kids Club is a genuine selling point. Supervised daily activities run from 9 am to 6 pm and cover arts and crafts, beach games, cooking classes and junior water sports. Parents can leave children aged 4–12 in safe hands while they use the spa, play tennis or simply sit undisturbed at the pool bar. The programme is included in most family room rates — confirm at booking.
Room categories range from standard doubles to family suites with interconnecting doors and a small kitchenette. Corner suites on the upper floors offer unobstructed views across the resort grounds toward the Strait of Malacca. All rooms follow IHG's standardised furnishing brief: reliable air conditioning, USB charging at both bedsides, blackout curtains and a proper rainfall shower.
The resort features two outdoor swimming pools: the main lagoon pool is large enough for a proper lap swim and includes a separate shallow zone for toddlers. A second, quieter pool near the spa building is adults-preferred and usually less busy during peak family check-in periods on Friday afternoons. Both pools are maintained to consistent temperature and cleanliness.
Four tennis courts are available for hire by the hour, with racquet rental on request at the sports desk. A badminton court and a small multi-use games area are also available. Guests with active itineraries will find the resort's sports facilities sufficient for a long-weekend stay without needing to leave the grounds.
The beach at Waterfront City is accessible by a short walk from the resort's perimeter. It is not a private beach, but the stretch directly in front of the Holiday Inn is generally uncrowded and calm enough for paddling. The resort does not operate its own water sports facility; guests can arrange jet ski rental and boat trips through the concierge.
The main restaurant serves an international buffet at breakfast and switches to an à la carte menu for lunch and dinner. The spread is reliably broad — Indonesian staples (nasi goreng, satay, gado-gado), a carving station, and a reasonable selection of vegetarian options. The breakfast buffet, in particular, draws praise from guests who appreciate starting the day without leaving the property.
The resort spa offers a menu of massages, body scrubs and facials with both Western and Southeast Asian treatments. Half-day and full-day spa packages are available and can be pre-booked during online check-in. The spa building includes four treatment rooms, a steam room and a relaxation lounge. Walk-in bookings are possible outside peak hours.
A pool bar and a separate lobby café keep guests fed and watered throughout the day. The lobby café serves Javanese-style coffee, light meals and packaged local snacks suitable for ferry transfers. Room service is available 24 hours a day with a limited late-night menu.
Sekupang Ferry Terminal is approximately 15 minutes by car from the resort. HarbourFront Ferry Terminal in Singapore operates several daily departures to Sekupang; the crossing takes around 40 minutes. Holiday Inn Resort Batam operates a paid shuttle service between the ferry terminal and the hotel on a fixed schedule — check the IHG website or ask the concierge for current timings when booking.
Batam Hang Nadim International Airport is roughly 25 minutes away, making the resort a practical choice for travellers arriving by air from Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta or other Indonesian cities. Private car transfers can be arranged through the hotel; Grab is also available in Batam and is often quicker to arrange for airport pickups.
The resort accepts all major credit cards with no surcharge. Foreign exchange is available at the front desk, though rates are standard hotel rates — better rates can be found at money changers in central Batam Center or Nagoya. The nearest pharmacy and convenience store are approximately 10 minutes away by taxi in Waterfront City township.
