Singapore to Batam Ferry: Every Route, Fare and Terminal Compared

The Short Answer

Most people need one of these four crossings:

• Staying in Nagoya or Batam Centre: HarbourFront to Batam Centre. Three operators, sailings from 07:40 to 21:50, about an hour on the water.
• Heading to a Nongsa resort (Turi Beach, Montigo, Batam View): Tanah Merah to Nongsa. You land at Nongsapura, a short transfer from the resorts, and skip the drive across the island.
• Staying in Waterfront City (Harris Resort, Holiday Inn): HarbourFront to Sekupang, then 15–20 minutes by car.
• Living in the east of Singapore: Tanah Merah to Batam Centre saves you the trip across town to HarbourFront.

One thing changed recently: since July 2026, HarbourFront ferries no longer leave from the old terminal in HarbourFront Centre but from the new Singapore Cruise Centre next door. More on that below.

All Six Routes at a Glance

Times are Singapore time, taken from the operators' timetables in September 2026. "SGD 28 + fees" is Sindo's base fare; the section on costs below explains what gets added. Each route links to its own page with the timetable notes and booking options.

Which Singapore Terminal?

HarbourFront (Singapore Cruise Centre). Since July 2026, every Batam ferry from HarbourFront leaves from the new Singapore Cruise Centre at 5 HarbourFront Avenue. BatamFast moved first, on 7 July; Horizon, Majestic and Sindo followed on 15 July. The new terminal is about 70 metres from the old one, with a sheltered walkway from HarbourFront MRT (Exit B) and VivoCity. If an older booking email or blog post sends you to HarbourFront Centre, this is where you actually go. Four of the six routes leave from here.

Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. In the east, near Changi. Take the MRT to Tanah Merah (EW4), then a short taxi ride. It serves Batam Centre and Nongsa. If you live in Tampines, Bedok or Pasir Ris, it is usually the quicker start.

Changi Point Ferry Terminal has no ferries to Batam. It only serves the bumboats to Pulau Ubin.

What a Ticket Really Costs

The operators publish their fares in different ways, which makes the headline prices hard to compare:

• Sindo Ferry advertises a base fare from SGD 28 one-way. Leaving Singapore, a SGD 10 Singapore Passenger Departure Fee is added. Leaving Batam, you pay a Batam Terminal Fee of IDR 100,000 (about SGD 7.60). Two base fares plus both fees come to roughly SGD 74 for the round trip.
• BatamFast publishes SGD 43 one-way and SGD 76 return, with the fees already included.
• Majestic Fast Ferry comes to about SGD 43 one-way including fees. Since 12 March 2026 it also charges a fuel surcharge on departures from Singapore, so check whether your quote includes it.
• Horizon Fast Ferry (Harbour Bay only) starts at SGD 43 in Economy; Business and VIP cost more. Horizon has announced a fuel surcharge as well.

The rule that saves you money: compare the total on the final payment screen, not the headline fare. A "from SGD 28" ticket and an all-in SGD 43 ticket end up much closer than they look. Our weekend budget guide puts the ferry next to hotel, food and transport costs.

How to Book

You can book directly with the operators (BatamFast, Sindo Ferry, Majestic Fast Ferry, Horizon Fast Ferry) or through Klook and KKday, which let you compare operators in one place — for example BatamFast tickets from HarbourFront on Klook or Sindo Ferry return tickets on Klook. Each route page lists the booking options for that crossing.

The terminals still sell tickets at the counter, but Friday evening, Saturday morning and Singapore public holiday sailings sell out. For those, book two to three days ahead.

Entry Requirements in Brief

• Singapore passports: visa-free for up to 30 days, no fee.
• Other ASEAN passports: also visa-free for 30 days.
• Most other nationalities, including the US, UK, EU and Australia: Visa on Arrival for USD 35, or an e-VOA applied for online at least 48 hours ahead, which gets you a faster lane.
• Everyone fills in the free All Indonesia e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before arrival. It takes about five minutes.
• Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date.

At the Terminal

Arrive at least 45 minutes before departure, and an hour before on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and public holidays. In Singapore you check in with your operator, then clear immigration. In Batam, have your passport, the e-Arrival Card QR code and, if you applied for one, your e-VOA ready. If you're paying for a Visa on Arrival, go to the VoA counter before you join the immigration queue.

Keep the clock in mind: Batam runs one hour behind Singapore, and every ferry time on the Batam side is local time.

The Last Ferry Back

If you're day-tripping, this is the number that shapes your whole day. The last scheduled sailings back to Singapore, in Batam local time (September 2026):

Busy Times

Friday evening and Saturday morning are the peak times out of Singapore; Sunday afternoon and evening are the peak for the return. Singapore public holidays and school holidays are busier still. On those days, book ahead and allow extra time for immigration on both sides. The quietest crossings are on weekdays.

Once You Land

Grab works in Batam with your Singapore account and is the easiest way from any terminal to your hotel. Taxis are the fallback. For a day of sightseeing, a private driver (SGD 70–100 for the day) is simpler than stringing Grab rides together, especially for Barelang, where Grab is patchy.
